In your Summer Slowdown era?

A slower season in your business gives you uninterrupted time to focus on those back-office business tasks that you've been neglecting!

Here's what I'd focus on during a slowdown:

  • Client Onboarding + Offboarding: Create (or revise) a set of standard operating procedures to ensure you follow all the steps on your onboarding and offboarding checklists.
  • Sales Funnel Walkthrough: Walk through your sales funnel yourself and make sure there aren't any dead links or confusing steps for potential clients.
  • Bookkeeping Review: If you don't have a bookkeeper, make sure all of your transactions are entered and fully reconciled through your most recent bank statement. Run a comparative Profit & Loss statement using this period's YTD and last year's YTD statements to see how your business is performing.
  • Tax Compliance: Check that you've filed all federal, state, payroll, and sales tax filings you were required to file. If you've extended any of your returns, gather any missing tax documents and send those to your tax accountant. If your income has changed significantly from last year, check with your tax accountant to see whether you need to adjust your Q3 + Q4 estimated tax payments.

Recommended Reading | Zenith Man

This week, I wrapped up my annual summer vacation at the beach—and my beach read was "Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom" by McCracken Posten, Jr. From the inside cover: "For the first time, here is the complete inside story of the Alvin Ridley trial that set out to determine if a small-town TV repairman was, in the words of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, 'a harmless eccentric or a bizarre killer."

I devoured this book in about 24 hours—it was a quick read that kept me turning page after page. As quoted on the front cover of the book, "A good story that will make readers think it's great fiction—except it happened." -Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize Winner.

If you're interested in grabbing a copy, it's highly discounted through tomorrow's Amazon Prime sale here.

And, this Saturday, July 12th, there is an event with the author in Ringgold, GA to celebrate the life of Alvin Ridley, who passed away one year ago.

Saturday, July 12th | 6-8pm | Book & Barrel located at 96 Depot St.

I will be attending, and I hope to see you there!
